Halloween has arrived in Demonologist, and apparently the Clock Wizard PD has decided that investigating a haunted location full of murderous spirits is an acceptable seasonal activity.
Sure, why the hell not?
Well for this funderful update 2.3.0, Demonologist is bringing us a brand spankin’ new investigation map, a new Temple safe house, a cursed item, and enough Halloween decorations to make even the dead feel festive.

There are also over 110 new scare sequences to discover and a fresh exorcism ritual that gives players plenty of opportunities to get themselves killed in increasingly dumb ways.
I’ve already spent some time exploring the new map, and there’s a lot to dig into.
So if you’re planning to investigate the new Darkwood Junction map yourself, here’s what you need to know (including how to complete its exorcism without turning your investigation into an expensive exercise in frustration and futility).
The latest update packs in quite a bit more than a few pumpkins and some ghosts who desperately need to discover the joys of therapy.
Here’s the rundown of the biggest additions:
Darkwood Junction: A new investigation map featuring over 110 new sequences, paranormal encounters, and plenty of opportunities to question your career choices.
Temple Safe House: A new location where you can prepare your equipment before heading back into whatever fresh hell awaits.
Sin Coin: A new cursed item that tempts players to take a chance on something that probably won’t end well.
New Tutorial Map: A dedicated area for learning the ropes before getting acquainted with the local residents of the afterlife.
Halloween Decorations: Cursed locations have received seasonal decorations, because apparently even the damned appreciate a little holiday spirit.
Returning Halloween Outfits: Previously released Halloween outfits are back for a limited time.
Three New Achievements: More challenges for completionists who apparently haven’t suffered enough.
Gameplay Improvements: Camera reliability fixes, field-of-view fixes, graphical improvements, and performance optimizations.
One particularly welcome addition is the return of communication with deceased friends through the Spirit Box!
Yay!
Death may separate us, but it sure as hell won’t stop me from complaining about your terrible decisions during the hunt.
You can find the complete details in the official Demonologist update 2.3.0 patch notes on Steam.
The star attraction here is undoubtedly Darkwood Junction, a new map location that embraces the Halloween season without relying entirely on cheap decorations from Spirit Halloween to do the heavy lifting.
There are pumpkins for sale, seasonal details peppered throughout the whole place, and plenty of jumpscares waiting for anyone willing to explore.

I’ve already had some great moments in here (except being trolled by the “useless” voice trigger), but I’m still looking forward to discovering everything that Clock Wizard Games has tucked away in this place, and I’d recommend taking your time rather than treating the map like a quick little grocery list.
The exorcism though…is another highlight all on its own.
Instead of simply identifying the ghost and completing a few routine objectives, you’ll need to solve puzzles, explore the environment, and survive a rather unpleasant maze.
Naturally, I found a way to make things more difficult for myself (more on that soon), but here’s how you can avoid repeating my mistakes.
As per usual, your first job is to investigate the location and identify the ghost type using your equipment and evidence.
Don’t rush ahead just because you’ve spotted something interesting.
The exorcism objectives need to be unlocked in the correct order, and Darkwood Junction has a particularly irritating way of punishing players who get ahead of themselves.
Trust me on this one…
Once you’ve identified the ghost and unlocked the exorcism objectives, you’ll need to complete two puzzles before moving on to the final stage.

The Workshop Gauge Puzzle
This one’s fast and easy (don’t get used to it). Just head to the workshop room near the back of the map and look for the three gauges mounted on the back wall. Each one has a needle that moves across its little display.
Simply left-click when the needle enters the green section of each gauge. Repeat this for all three, and the entire puzzle should take a whopping five seconds.
Congratulations! You’ve successfully completed a task that doesn’t require a degree in paranormal engineering!
I hope you enjoyed your moment of simplicity, because next you’re going to head into the computer room with your trusty rusty spyglass.
Here, you’ll find a computer displaying a sequence of symbols, and your job is to match each symbol with the correct number hidden around the room.
Image: The Demonologist | Clock Wizard Games
The numbers themselves are visible without any assistance, however, you’ll need the spyglass to reveal the symbols associated with them.
For example, if the first slot on the computer displays a skull symbol, search the room with your spyglass until you locate that same skull and once you find it, enter the number beside it into the first slot on the computer.
Repeat this process for each symbol until you’ve entered the complete 4-digit code.

A couple of notes on this: you can solve the puzzle one number at a time, so even if your memory is that of a drunken goldfish, you should be just fine.
If you’re having trouble finding a symbol, check behind doors, along the side of the fan, on the damn ceiling, and around the computer monitors.
Some of these are easy to overlook if you’re rushing.
Once you’ve entered the code, give the computer a moment to verify your answer. If it’s correct, you’ll immediately be transported into the next part of the exorcism.
Remember all that lovely equipment you brought along?
Forget about it.
The game will teleport you into a maze without your inventory, leaving you with a flashlight on a table and a collection of traps ripped from Temu Forewarned designed to make your day considerably worse.
Image: The Demonologist | Clock Wizard Games
Pick up the flashlight and start hiking eternally down the corridors. You’ll probably encounter a lot of dead ends, spinning blades, and other funsies that you’ll need to avoid while searching for the exit.
Most of the traps are fairly manageable. The spinning blades, for instance, can be avoided by just moving around them.
The ceiling of spikes, however, deserves special attention. I learned this one the hard way.
Image: The Demonologist | Clock Wizard Games
So I initially assumed that I could move close to the spikes while the ceiling was lowered…but apparently the sides are coated in some sort of fast-acting poison of instant death, spiritually empowered tetanus, or whatever the hell other nonsense the developers decided would ruin my afternoon.
Do not touch the spikes. JUST DON’T DO IT! Contact can kill you instantly, forcing you to die in the maze, which kills you in the game, and maybe even IRL…okay, not that. But you will lose all your items and die and have to start the whole hunt over so jus tbe extra careful.
Once you find the exit, look for the weird electric field resembling the entrance (because that’s how most mazes start and end). Grab the key from the desk and unlock the door to finally return to “safety” of the computer room.
Thankfully, your sanity won’t drain while you’re inside the maze and you’ll notice that your original items are just sitting on the floor when you return.
If you were carrying something actually useful, like a crucifix or candle, you may want to drop the dimension-hopping flashlight and pick your equipment back up before leaving the computer room.
Do not complete the computer puzzle and maze before identifying the ghost and unlocking Step 2.
I originally thought the room was a secret or an Easter egg or something and completed everything early…unfortunately, the game doesn’t retroactively recognize your progress when the objective eventually unlocked.
Soooo I was left with an investigation that I couldn’t finish and a very funderful trip back to the menu.
Apparently, Clock Wizard Games doesn’t reward overachievers.
The final step is considerably less complicated, provided you haven’t spent the last twenty minutes being repeatedly murdered by inanimate, evil architecture.
Head to the previously locked jail cell at the back of Darkwood Junction. Inside, you’ll find three lovely hanging corpses, each with a note below them containing a statement about the map.
Image: The Demonologist | Clock Wizard Games
Here’s the catch: one of the three statements is a lie.
You’ll need to investigate the map and verify each of the claims to determine which statement is false. The notes might mention details such as whether the market has crucifixes hanging on its walls or how many sinks are in the bathroom.
In other words, you’ll be checking random environmental details you’ve probably never even bothered to consider important until now...it’s a little tedious, ngl.
But once you’ve identified the lie, grab the sword hanging on the wall directly in front of the jail cell entrance. Interact with the lying corpse above the false statement, and you’ll finally trigger the ending exorcism sequence.
Image: The Demonologist | Clock Wizard Games
Enjoy the fireworks (that I won’t spoil for you) – you’ve earned them.
With the ritual complete, you can now leave Darkwood Junction and collect your bountiful reward: experience points and probably half the money you lost when you hugged the stupid spiked ceiling.
I’m honestly really enjoying the new update so far.
Clock Wizard Games has managed to deliver yet another substantial map update in only roughly one month after the arrival of Black Platform 13 (which is an impressive turnaround for a game that continues to expand its collection of paranormal playgrounds).
If you’ve already worked your way through the Black Platform 13 train station exorcism guide, Darkwood Junction is another awesome reason to dust off your equipment and get back to some good ol’ ghost hunting.
Just try not to become the next attraction on the map’s list of seasonal decorations!
