Gaming NewsHorror GamesNew Releases 23 8 Ayefkay June 25, 2025
At 2 PM Pacific on June 25, 2025, fans of cursed exe games everywhere were ready to get spooked, chased, and obliterated by their favorite evil version of Sonic the Hedgehog.
Sonic.EXE: The Disaster Reborn was set to drop on Roblox and, for a few glorious, glitchy, nostalgic minutes – it actually did.
Over 35,000 players flooded the lobbies, their bacon hair all twitching with anticipation.
And then…it all came crashing down.
While some bugs are to be expected at any launch, this was something else. Sonic.EXE TD Reborn wasn’t a horror game. It was a horror show (and not the fun kind) and has officially delayed the launch.
The brief time the game was playable gave fans a sneak peek into a beautifully chaotic nightmare – but not the kind anyone asked for.
Amy lowkey hid all the chaos emeralds in her pocket and was basically unkillable (unless she literally sat in Tails Doll’s puddle o’ death all game for funsies).
The exe could still attack while being charged by Metal Sonic, making one of the core stunlock mechanics feel more like a survivor liability than a game feature.
And the blood? So much blood. It wasn’t scary. It was just messy, performance-breaking, screen-flooding, and vibe-ruining. Ok…kinda funny though, not gonna lie.
With bugs stacking up faster than creepypasta cameos, the devs made the only reasonable call: shut it down, fix the mess, and come back stronger later.
Disappointment? Totally valid. But anger? Insults? Full-blown death threats?
That’s the part where the playerbase fumbled the bag.
Look, no one likes getting blue-balled and baited on launch day – but this wasn’t a SEGA studio release. This was a passion project, made by fans for fans, running off of Roblox’s potato game engine, and rebuilt in less than two months.
Let that reeeally sink in: under 60 days.
Unpaid. On a platform where your character has wet noodle arms by default. These devs didn’t owe us anything, but they still went out of their way to bring something beloved back from the digital grave.
If your first reaction is to spew venom in a Discord DM because your poor pookie Sonic fix got delayed, you need to touch grass, pull your head out of your ass, and probably apologize.
Quick history lesson for anyone who missed the meltdown: on May 6, 2025, SEGA issued a DMCA takedown to dev rockstar Outlaik for Sonic.EXE: The Disaster, citing IP infringement.
Legally speaking, yeah…they had every right to.
But from a PR perspective? It was a full-speed faceplant into a garbage fire from SEGA.
The fangame brought people into the franchise. It didn’t pull them away from SEGA’s content – it introduced a whole new generation to Sonic, albeit the funderful nightmare version.
Taking it down wasn’t just a corporate bad decision…it was just plain stupid.
If you want the full breakdown on what happened with Sonic.EXE the Disaster, we already covered it so just click on the link and read away after you’re done here.
Spoiler alert: SEGA really sucks sometimes.
Once the original Disaster got vaporized, players scattered to whatever alternatives they could find…luckily, Roblox has more than enough Sonic games.
Dimensional Coalescence, Classic Sonic Simulator, Sonic Chase and a seemingly endless supply of other Sonic clones picked up the slack – for a while.
Now with Reborn pulled offline for repairs, we’re back in that same waiting room. No real replacement, just haunted memories and the hope that something polished is on the way.
Just a side note, Dimensional Coalescence does scratch that itch for me and the devs over there seem to be making pretty regular and positive updates to keep the game improving so if you haven’t played it yet – I definitely recommend it.
I’m hoping that this will only take a few days, but with all of the hate coming at the devs for the launch – who knows?
While waiting in the lobby/waiting room, I saw a few players mention 4 days (which would give Sonic.EXE: TD Reborn a launch date of June 29th, 2025), but this is absolutely unconfirmed and more wishful thinking than anything else.
Ayefkay in the future edit: this rumor has been addressed in Discord as untrue and the official party line is that “the update will be ready when it’s ready” with no official release date at this time. The devs did say that they will announce beforehand though, so I’ll update again when I hear something!
Now back to your regularly scheduled program:
Just think that SEGA themselves still hasn’t released Sonic Rumble after its failed-with-flying-colors release date in February – and they have an ungodly battalion of developers working on that.
Game development takes time and fixing bugs is grueling and tedious work so hopefully they are able to get the game in a playable state (still expect some bugs!) sooner than later.
Here’s the cold truth: TD Reborn was never going to be perfect.
This was a labor of love. It wasn’t backed by a publisher. It wasn’t funded by microtransactions. It was built fast, by fans who wanted to give back to the community…and maybe scare a few people along the way.
Yes, it launched broken.
But it launched (which is more than can be said for half the games we see on Steam lately)! The devs are already working on fixes. The only thing the community needs to do is chill out and show some respect.
Be disappointed if you want. But don’t be toxic.
This scene lives and dies by the effort of passionate creators willing to do the impossible for free. If we burn them out with rage, we lose everything awesome about this weird little corner of gaming.
The Disaster was reborn. It just wasn’t ready yet. But it’s not dead. Not really.
Just give the devs some time to cook and hopefully they don’t pull Sonic out of the oven too soon the next time. This game and these devs still deserve not only their second chance, but our appreciation for all of the hard work they’ve done and for bringing something back that we thought we lost forever.
Truly, thank you.

I want to bring both the technical know-how and battle-tested gamer instincts to every article here. Whether I'm deep-diving into ARAM strats, roasting a broken patch, or side-eyeing the latest "diverse" but soulless AAA release, I write with one goal in mind: cut the fluff and tell it how it is. I've worked in digital marketing and spoke in conferences nationwide, but my heart’s always been in the trenches of gaming - whether that’s grinding ladders, theorycrafting late at night, or binge-watching the 38th questionable isekai this season. Follow my rants, insights, and updates on ReportAFK.com and let me know what you think in the comments - I read (and usually respond to) every. single. one.
A place for gamers, by gamers, untarnished by corporate gaming media and their nonstop attempts to elevate bad games while denouncing any developers brave enough to stand up to them.

I don’t think swag will take down td reborn as sega loves fangames (even exe ones’s) with sega seeing what there fanbase has done after they took it down i doubt they’ll do it again.

Hey Not Important, thanks for dropping by! I don’t think they’ll take it down either – at least not for a while. TD was up for years before they took it down and there’s dozens of other Sonic games too.
