SEGA Leaks Secret Spreadsheet: Winners, Losers, and WTFs

SEGA Leaks Secret Sales Spreadsheet Numbers

SEGA Leaks: What it Reveals About the Company’s Future

It’s not every day a billion-dollar company lets their Excel sins hit the internet. But SEGA apparently clicked the wrong export settings or something and accidentally gave us a behind-the-scenes look at the raw sales numbers for some of their biggest franchises.

This wasn’t some tweet teaser or vague PR brag: this was an honest-to-goodness spreadsheet (unsurprisingly now removed) that showed just how well titles like Persona 5 Royal, Sonic Frontiers, and Yakuza: Like a Dragon are doing.

And let’s just say: Persona 5 is still eating. Hard.

We’ve got the juicy numbers, the hotter-than-hot takes, and what it all might mean for SEGA’s future (and yours, if you’re waiting on Persona 6).

Buckle in, because we’re cracking this leak wide open.

The Accidental Flex: What SEGA Leaked

In a recent investor-facing document (originally posted and then quickly scrubbed), SEGA unintentionally revealed the lifetime and fiscal-year sales numbers of several of their biggest recent titles.

A handful of media outlets like TweakTown, VideoGamesChronicle, and GameLuster grabbed screenshots and broke it down before the cleanup crew arrived.

Here are some of the standout stats pulled from the now-redacted slide:

  • Persona 5 Royal: 7.2 million units sold

  • Persona 3 Reload: 2.1 million

  • Shin Megami Tensei V: 2.1 million

  • Sonic Frontiers: 4.5 million

  • Sonic Superstars: 2.4 million

  • Yakuza: Like a Dragon: 2.8 million

  • Yakuza: Ishin!: 1.6 million

  • Total War: Three Kingdoms: 3.2 million

  • Total War: Warhammer III: 2.3 million

Those are some serious numbers, and they speak volumes.

Persona 5 is SEGA's King of the Hill

Persona 5 Royal isn’t just SEGA’s best-performing game on this list: it nearly doubles the next-best-selling title. Add in the vanilla Persona 5 base game and the number reportedly climbs above 10 million units. That’s triple-A territory (without the triple-A marketing budget).

Even more impressive: in just the last fiscal year alone (FY2025), P5 Royal sold another 1.75 million copies. That’s wild for a game that originally launched in 2016 and was “updated” in 2019. At this rate, SEGA could ride this one title for another two years before touching Persona 6 (and maybe they will).

Let’s be real: if a game you released nearly a decade ago is still topping your charts and printing money, you’re probably not in a rush to dethrone it.

It’s the GTA V effect (minus the funderful sharks and strip clubs).

So...Where the Hell is Persona 6?

It’s no secret that fans have been chompin’ at the bit for a new mainline entry. We’ve seen spin-offs, remasters, and stylish rhythm games – but no Persona 6. Now the reason might finally be clear.

Persona 5 Royal is still actively generating sales, surpassing newer releases like Persona 3 Reload (which, despite being very well received), sold less than a third of what P5R managed in the same timeframe. It’s not that Atlus can’t make a new Persona game. It’s more like: why should they?

From a business standpoint, it makes sense. From a fan standpoint, let’s just say the pitchforks are sharpened and the cosplay budgets are running dry.

The Rise of Shin Megami and the Broader RPG Boom

Shin Megami Tensei V quietly passed the 2-million mark, making it one of the best-selling SMT titles ever. For a series once considered “niche,” that’s huge. Combine that with the numbers for Persona 3 Reload, and the message is clear: Atlus is no longer an underground developer

They’re mainstream. Their IPs are selling, and SEGA knows it.

Expect more remakes, more ports, and probably more Persona merch than you ever asked for.

And honestly? Good.

Because if this success keeps funding future titles (and maybe even an SMT VI), we’re here for it.

Sonic’s Still Running (But Not Winning)

Let’s talk about the hedgehog in the room.

Frontiers sold 4.5 million units: solid numbers, especially considering the mixed reception. Superstars added another 2.4 million to that pile. Combined, Sonic’s output is strong—but not Mario strong.

The Sonic franchise remains one of SEGA’s crown jewels, but it’s showing signs of needing something fresh. Maybe it’s not the best time to go after fan-made games like Sonic.exe The Disaster?

A new movie? Probably. Another experimental 3D platformer? Maybe. Promoting divisive gender ideology through companies like Kaleidoscope? Hell no. A quality-of-life patch that fixes whatever the hell happened in Superstars’ co-op mode? Sure, try that.

Pretty much anything besides the dumb things SEGA’s been doing lately.

What This Leak Tells Us About SEGA’s Future

If you’re looking for an easy to read, digestible version:

Persona is carrying Hard

If you’re wondering why there’s no Persona 6, just look at the sales charts. Persona 5 Royal is still a license to print cash. SEGA has little incentive to rush a new release when the old one continues to climb.

Atlus is no longer “small”

SMT and Persona are now some of SEGA’s most valuable IPs. Expect more investment, more remakes, and more anime-style takeovers.

Sonic is consistent (but not dominant)

He’s fast. He’s nostalgic. But unless SEGA finds a way to truly evolve the brand, Sonic might keep coasting without ever hitting Mario-tier relevance again.

Yakuza is officially a global franchise

The era of awkward English box art and niche appeal is over. Like a Dragon is rising. Expect Ichiban to be the next SEGA poster boy (if he isn’t already).

SEGA Didn't Mean to Show Their Hand; Numbers Don't Lie

Their future is riding on a three-headed beast: Persona, Sonic, and Like a Dragon (with SMT and Total War in the backseat yelling “Don’t forget about us!”).

What should fans do with this info?

Push harder. Ask louder.

Make it clear that while people will buy Persona merch all day, we’re still hungry for new stories, new games, and new risks. If SEGA is listening, this accidental leak might be the loudest feedback to move their asses that they’ll get to hear all year.
