REPO Dev Vlog Teases New Monsters – Here’s Our Theories!

REPO New Upcoming Monster Teaser Theories

REPO's Latest Dev Vlog is a Monster Hunting Ground

You know semiwork: dev logs that aren’t just updates – they’re cryptic scavenger hunts, skull-etched Easter eggs, and little monster riddles hidden in your peripheral vision.

We solved the semi-Summer REPO Riddle and have confirmed some new mechanics like the Death Head ability coming in the next update – but semiwork wants to give us MORE!

In their latest REPO vlog, they didn’t outright announce any new monsters, but they smuggled in dozens of hints, weird props, and half-glimpsed figures that scream “we’re not done surprising you.”

Below, we walk through everything we spotted (some we may definitely be reaching for)  – plus the monster theories burning in my brain.

New Valuables and Items: Not Just Loot, but Clues

  • New valuables are headed to all of the new REPO maps. On the surface, just extra loot zones; but in the world of REPO, locations = lore = monster territory.

REPO Monster Teasers New Strong Flashlight

  • The Strong Flashlight shows up in the dev log not just as a rare item, but with emphasis: “strong light.” That feels too pointed to ignore. Could this mean bright illumination is a future monster’s weakness? Expect a creature that recoils from light, is vulnerable to beams, or maybe is “blinded” by powerful flash effects.

These additions hint that the update isn’t just about more monsters – it’s expanding how you interact with space, tools, and the world.

The Cabin of Clues: Fishing Gear and Creepy Models

Pontus introduces a newly furnished semiwork cabin stuffed with fishing bobbers, a paddle, a boat engine fan, a tackle shelf and more. That theme screams water, perhaps new maps or monster zones tied to lakes, piers, or swampy grounds?

But the background is where it gets juicy:

There’s a model of an “Oogie Boogie-esque” monster and an old woman with a yellow bonnet tucked in a shelf next to some statuettes of gnomes – this doesn’t feel decorative and could be their sneaky ways of introducing some new monster types.

Oogey Boogey and Spider Pack Monster

Subtle cameras shift on a spider hanging from a rope, and elsewhere, you can spot small blob-like monsters in the background (out of focus). This definitely looks like a new swarming pack monster, but we can’t get a good look just yet.

New Pack Monster Teaser Maybe Spider

These images are your dev-level breadcrumbs. Use them.

Bugward Slytooth, Hanging Plants and More

A surreal moment: semibots staring at a birdhouse that houses a strange creature called Bugward Slytooth: a demonic pug-like monster, supposedly “the manifestation of all the bugs in their game.”

Is this a joke turned real? A meta-monster that warps game logic or corrupts environment?

That same design, language shows plants, overgrowth, and foliage, appearing in other shots – plants hanging in the dev room, and in some gameplay snippets.

Could we be getting floral or vine-based monsters that ensnare semibots from above, hide in ceilings, or blend into foliage until they strike?

The Secret Tape: Two Monsters or One?

Pontus finds a tape labeled “Secret Tape”, plays it in a vintage camcorder.

The footage is washed in blue, with heavy visual noise – BUT two distinct monster silhouettes emerge (or maybe one creature with two forms). The obscured quality suggests semiwork is deliberately leaving things ambiguous.

My take: they might be teasing two monster archetypes simultaneously or showing phases of one shape-shifting entity.

The Shirt, the Mimic, and That Final Punch

In a cheeky visual twist, Pontus isn’t wearing his normal robe in one of the shots. Instead, he dons a nightmarish fish-themed shirt. Given the fishing motif in the cabin, that’s likely not random. More aquatic vibes.

And, of course, the dev vlog ends with the Mimic Box (Box Boy) devouring Pontus

REPO New Mimic Enemy or Just a Funny Outro from Box Boy

On the nose? Maybe…but in REPO land, nothing is just a gag. That could be a legit hint that mimic enemies (loot chests that bite back) are getting introduced.

6. Theory Time: What Monsters Could We Actually Be Facing?

Here’s where the magic happens: combining our observations with gameplay logic. Here are some theories I’m betting on:

Oogie Boogie Blob

Spotted on the shelf in the cabin. Medium-sized body that can stretch its body and lurks in darkness, flees or is harmed by bright light beams?

Referred to by Pontus’s shirt and nautical themed-cabin. Could swim (maybe through the ground?) and attack semibots on the ground or just be some lumbering giant fish with some creepy human legs…I really hope for a human-legged evil blowfish of nightmarish doom lol.

Close up of a spider in the cabin and the gameplay shots showing a new pack monster. While I’m not sure if this is going to be the new pack monster or not, a spider would have the ability to chase well in the new verticality of the Museum and poses a significant threat.

Okay, there were no other references to this besides being on the shelf and it really doesn’t look too monstrous (unless it’s another form of one of the “Secret Tape” monsters…but why have an old woman on the shelf next to other statuettes? It just seems too out of place not to mention it.

You see a lot of hanging vines, not only in the cabin and behind devs while they’re speaking, but also in a snippet of gameplay.

I think this could be a new monster that waits for you to pass by and scoops you up if you’re not paying attention. Maybe you’ll need to toss something in it’s vines for it to pull up instead of you in order to pass?

Clearly shown hiding in the birdhouse in the new cabin. Maybe this will look like “Bugward Slytooth” (which, again, looks like a demonic bug-pug lol) and maybe it will have some meta/glitchy related powers that could alter physics or change the environment?

Shown in the “Secret Tape” and also models while a dev was talking. They don’t really give this enough screentime to guess on its abilities, but if the “Oogie Boogie” monster isn’t affected by the strong flashlight – this one definitely will be the next contender.

A regular member of the REPO dev vlogs, this potentially new monster looks like loot boxes, but when you try to open them – they show their teeth and try to much down the unsuspecting semibots.

7. Golden Joystick Nod: Vote for REPO!

Before we close, big props where they’re due – REPO has been nominated for a Golden Joystick Award in the “Best Early Access Game” category

And they deserve it!

Let me say it loud: Congrats to semiwork for building one of the most weird, ambitious, and community-driven horror co-op games out there. If you’ve ever screamed, peeked around a corner, or rage-quit a run in REPO, please go vote for them

Am I Right About ANY of These New REPO Monsters?

Semiwork’s dev vlog is like a creeper lurking just outside your vision – you think you saw something, but maybe that was just the shadow. The clues are there, but it’s up to us to piece them together.

But hey, maybe I should just take off the tinfoil hat…

What do you think? Watch the vlog. Scrub through the corners of every shot. Drop your own theories and screenshots in the comments below! Who knows – maybe the next monster will show up in your feed first.

In the end: the darkness is folding in, the boxes are watching, and in REPO’s next update, I expect nothing less than outright pandemonium in the next update!

Let’s get our hunt on.
