The Phasmo Chronicle update didn’t just hand us new toys – it basically shoved us into the role of ghost paparazzi. Now it’s not enough to survive the hunt; you’ve got to capture it in HD, preferably with dramatic lighting and a hint of ghost sass.
Between the Sound Recorder, Video Camera, and good ol’ Photo Camera, we’re now less “investigators” and more “tabloid journalists for the undead.”
And with the Grafton Farmhouse about to get its glow-up, there’s no better time to sharpen your media game before the ghosts move in and start charging appearance fees.
Meet the Sound Recorder, your paranormal hot mic. This bad boy captures Unique ghost sounds such as ghostly voices, whispery threats, and pretty much any spectral noise that will make your payout even juicier.
The trick is you only get three sound recordings per run, so you can’t just record every sneeze the ghost makes and expect a raise. Higher tiers give you better range and clarity, and Tier 3 even comes with a built-in directional indicator so that you can stalk your ghost like an audio-obsessed weirdo.
If you want points, you need quality over quantity – think “podcast guest who actually has something interesting to say”, not filler episode.
Identify the Ghost Room quick to find the gossip hotspot before rolling tape.
Hold that record button until the game kicks you out; half a growl doesn’t pay.
Deletions are shared between your whole Media Folder, so don’t burn them on “ghost coughed politely” clips.
If your ghost has Spirit Box evidence, hold record while asking questions for some easy peasy sound recording – but only grab one! Additional responses don’t count.
Spirit Box responses.
Growling or hissing during a hunt.
EMF 5 from the EMF Reader.
Using the Music Box.
Paranormal laughs or whispers – because ghosts have zero respect for personal space.
If the Sound Recorder is your podcast setup, the Video Camera is your ghost reality show. You’re looking for up to five Unique events worth recording such as ghost interactions, burning or blowing out fire sources, or the ghost popping up like it’s ready for a close-up.
Thanks to the Phasmophobia Chronicle update, you can record either in-person like a brave (or dumb) hero or from the safety of the van’s CCTV like a sensible person with a caffeine addiction.
Higher-tier cameras mean sharper footage and more resistance to get yeeted, so yes, you can now film your ghost in glorious detail as it decides whether or not to murder you.
Tier 3 Motion Sensors are your best friends, giving you free ghost footage without leaving your comfort zone. If you’re looking for a specific interaction though, use the Tier 2.
Stack items in a room or aim at high-traffic spots like hallways so you don’t get five minutes of “empty chair” cinema.
Delete duds before uploading to free up space for something less boring. It’s easy to pick up accidental salt video duplicates though, so be careful what you’re shooting.
If you have D.O.T.S. evidence, make sure to grab some easy ghost video.
The ghost manifesting (this can be achieved through D.O.T.S.).
Objects moving or being thrown.
Ghosts stepping in salt.
Ghost writing after placing your book.
Crucifixes burning while preventing a ghost hunt.
The Photo Camera is the oldest trick in the book, and it’s still a moneymaker – just with a little more stricter rules now. You get five photos per run, so don’t blow all your shots on “ghost might have been here” vibes.
Your ideal subjects are easy evidence-based photos like EMF 5 readings, ghost writing, footprints, fingerprints along with environmental shots like bones, cursed items, and yes, the ghost itself if you’re feeling spicy.
UV light is basically your evidence cashlight; bring it if you want those print shots.
Multi-task your opportunities: D.O.T.S. can give you photo and video evidence.
Higher-tier cameras give you a bit less shutter speed, allowing you to snap off more shots which could be helpful if a ghost is blinking a lot during a hunt.
Dead teammate shots still count, so at least someone’s death wasn’t a total waste.
UV evidence (such as fingerprints or footprints).
Dirty water found in a bathroom or kitchen.
Ghost writing in the book.
Cursed object (Ouija board, music box, etc.).
The ghost itself during a ghost event or hunt.
If you want the big payout, you need variety. That means five unique photos, five unique videos, and three unique sounds. No spamming the same evidence; Phasmophobia now wants a proper portfolio.

Deletions are limited and shared between all media, so choose what stays and what gets tossed wisely young grasshopper. Set up during the calm, chase sound events when the ghost is in a chatty mood, and snap photos when the evidence basically walks into your frame.
The result is maximum points, maximum profit, and the smug satisfaction of knowing your ghost documentary is worth the Netflix subscription.
Learn this stuff now, and when Grafton Farmhouse 2.0 drops on August 12th, you won’t be the panicked fool trying to figure out how to handle your tools mid-hunt.
You’ll be cool, collected, and raking in points while the ghost wonders why you’re treating its murder attempts like a press junket. If you want to check out some more Phasmophobia Guides, here’s a couple more I would suggest:

Hi, I'm the founder and editor-in-chief of Report AFK, a gaming and anime site built for people who are tired of sanitized mainstream media coverage and toothless hot takes. I want to bring both the technical know-how and battle-tested gamer instincts to every article here. Whether I'm deep-diving into ARAM strats, roasting a broken patch, or side-eyeing the latest "diverse" but soulless AAA release, I write with one goal in mind: cut the fluff and tell it how it is. I've worked in digital marketing and spoke in conferences nationwide, but my heart’s always been in the trenches of gaming - whether that’s grinding ladders, theorycrafting late at night, or binge-watching the 38th questionable isekai this season. Follow my rants, insights, and updates on ReportAFK.com and let me know what you think in the comments - I read (and usually respond to) every. single. one.
A place for gamers, by gamers, untarnished by corporate gaming media and their nonstop attempts to elevate bad games while denouncing any developers brave enough to stand up to them.

If you’re holding the sound recorder you can usually see a small bump in noise before something big happens so it kinda gives you a warning when to hold it

Hey Jasime, it’s really a lot easier if you use your items (i.e., D.O.T.S., motion sensor lights, crucifix, salt, lamp, etc.) all can give video evidence. I think the photos are actually harder now imho, but still not crazy hard.
Thanks for coming by!
