Ah, Don’t Starve Together. The game that constantly asks, “How much funderful trauma can we heap onto these weird little Victorian survivors before they snap like overcooked twigs?” Klei just dropped their latest update, From Beyond: Forgone, and let’s just say…things are getting shadowy, shocking, and suspiciously sentimental.
This update brings a moody new animated short, a mess of gameplay tweaks, shiny cosmetics, and a free login reward that practically screams, “We know you uninstalled, but please come back for the hat.”
Klei dropped a gorgeous and moody cinematic story trailer called Forgone (watch it below) that dives deep into Charlie’s mental spiral, and it’s surprisingly raw for a game where you can die of bee stings and starvation within the first 10 minutes.
In this short, we watch Charlie reflect on her past with William Carter (you know, before he became that guy). She’s trapped in a dreamlike haze of regret, memory gaps, and enough emotional weight to crush a Tallbird. It’s a reminder that before the nightmare circus came to town, these were just people. Flawed, ambitious, and wildly unprepared for what they unleashed.
Of course, the lore nerds are already dissecting every flicker of shadow in this video like it’s the Zapruder film. Is Charlie fully possessed? Are her memories real or twisted by Them? Did William really ruin everything? Probably yes.
In the gameplay realm, the update adds some solid tweaks under the title Hostile Takeover: Phase 2. The headline changes?
Electric weapons got juiced, and now you can shock your enemies like a discount Sith Lord.
Creatures can enter shock states, so expect more twitching on screen than usual.
There’s a new T.I.N.G.L.E. Node, which sounds like a sci-fi dating app but is apparently useful and craftable.
Drying racks now hold multiple items, finally answering the question, “Why couldn’t I dry all this meat at once, Klei?”
Celestial questline tweaks, post-Scion changes, and new Lunar Hail mechanics. The falling debris has been replaced with something fresher and slightly less deadly. Probably. Maybe.
They’ve also packed in rendering optimizations, meaning your old laptop might hold on a little longer before bursting into flames. Shoutout to toaster-core players, Klei sees you.
Want a freebie? Of course you do. Just log in to Don’t Starve Together and you’ll score the Mythic Bone Helm. It’s a limited-time login reward that’s spooky, stylish, and totally not cursed.

Also dropping into the game is the new Marble Impact Armor skin, part of the Orbital Collection. It’s available through Twitch Drops, so if you want to flex in-game, all you have to do is stare at someone else playing it for a few hours or just let a stream go on in an abandoned window.
Easy peasy.
Our pals at Glass Cannon Unplugged are working on a Don’t Starve board game (yes, really), and they’ve just dropped new images and info on the Kickstarter page.
Even better, if you’re somehow at Gen Con this weekend, you can demo it in person. Bring your irrational fear of the dark and your inner min-maxer.
All in all, this update feels like a solid little midpoint. There’s some lore for the theorists, quality-of-life boosts for the grinders, and just enough mystery to keep everyone guessing.
Forgone doesn’t answer every question, but it makes one thing clear. The shadow arc is closing in, and Charlie’s running out of time…and probably therapy options. The next update’s coming in September, so if you’re not starving yet, you will be.
So grab that Mythic Bone Helm, build a better drying rack, and maybe – just maybe – remember that once upon a time, these people weren’t just insane marionettes in a survival horror sandbox. They were just like us.
Only hungrier.

Hi, I'm the founder and editor-in-chief of Report AFK, a gaming and anime site built for people who are tired of sanitized mainstream media coverage and toothless hot takes. I want to bring both the technical know-how and battle-tested gamer instincts to every article here. Whether I'm deep-diving into ARAM strats, roasting a broken patch, or side-eyeing the latest "diverse" but soulless AAA release, I write with one goal in mind: cut the fluff and tell it how it is. I've worked in digital marketing and spoke in conferences nationwide, but my heart’s always been in the trenches of gaming - whether that’s grinding ladders, theorycrafting late at night, or binge-watching the 38th questionable isekai this season. Follow my rants, insights, and updates on ReportAFK.com and let me know what you think in the comments - I read (and usually respond to) every. single. one.
A place for gamers, by gamers, untarnished by corporate gaming media and their nonstop attempts to elevate bad games while denouncing any developers brave enough to stand up to them.
