That your perfectly polished armor and “meta build” made you invincible? Enter Lagiacrus – the funderful lightning-laced lizard from Monster Hunter Tri who’s back, buffed, and ready to shock your ego back to a harsh reality.
Between land, water, and Tempered fury, this beast is designed to make you question all your life choices.
Know Your Enemy: Lagiacrus 101

Lagiacrus is a serpentine Leviathan that thrives in both land and sea. Chunky tail, glowing crystals, and enough thunder blight to short your life bar.
Weaknesses (Normal & Tempered)
Fire: Highest damage (3★ head, chest, tail)
Ice & Dragon: Secondary (1–2★)
Water & Thunder: Essentially useless

Status Vulnerabilities
Good for Poison, Sleep, Blast, and Exhaust.
Paralysis & Stun? Don’t waste your time
Core Attacks
Tail slam with shockwaves
Rolling charges across the arena

Gearing Up: Loadout Suggestions for Lagiacrus
Armor & Skills
Thunder Resist, Stun Resist, Evade Extender
Divine Blessing, Agitator (especially for Tempered)
Eat Veggies for Elemental Resist buffs
Tempered Prep Note
Drop glass DPS builds. Swap in straight-up defensive skills. This eel will one-shot you faster than your wifi drops in a storm if you get caught out for one second so you’re best best is farming out some Normal Lagiacrus gear before hitting up the Tempered version.
Strategy Breakdown: Normal Lagiacrus
Phase 1: Land, Shank, Repeat
Luckily, Lagiacrus starts off a little more gently (compared to later at least) to get you used to his powerhouse moveset. Bait tail charges, dodge his corkscrew charge attacks, chip at its head, but absolutely make sure to punish the Lightning Eruption by targeting his glowing back with a Focus Strike after he discharges his electricity.

His moves are mostly telegraphed, besides the Lightning Eruption, which can be extremely dangerous. Be especially wary of being in melee range when his spikes on his back are glowing, indicating that he’s all charged up and volt up like an electric volcano. Try to bait out his Eruption with a melee attack and quickly get out of range when he starts charging up his attack.
Phase 2: Water Phase Surprise
This is not a little gimmick – it’s a full on mini underwater boss fight. After Lagiacrus dives in, walk up to the water’s edge behind him and follow him in:
Swim Controls: Ascend/descend, dodge, swim around freely. You can easily dodge most of his lunge moves and projectiles, but if he starts swinging his tail around – ascend/descend out of the way.
Deal Damage Using Slinger: Grapple with clutch claw then stab ’em or use weapon finishes. After he shoots his projectiles, you’ll see a weakness indicator on his face so take a moment to grab and smash it up good. You can often chain your grapples, so don’t be too shy when trying to grab, even if you end up eating an attack you can heal pretty easily.

Use the Environment: You should look for a stone to pull immediately when the phase starts for some easy big damage! Shoot barnacle clusters for Piercing Pods and drop submerged boulders for big staggers.
Final cutscene sends Lagiacrus back to land with heavy stagger, queueing next phase.
Phase 3: Water Phase Surprise
Enraged Lagiacrus returns, glowing brighter, faster, stronger. Shockwaves cover more area. Keep distance, bait attacks, and punish whiffs aggressively but carefully. He’ll be chaining his attacks more often (especially his dashes) so bide your time and attack when it’s safe, especially after his Lightning Eruptions.

When he starts getting low in health, the big question is – kill or trap?
If you’re a Lagiacrus pro, riding the lightning, and you want to go for the kill…more power to you. But if you’ve been thrown around and shocked more times than you can count – it might be a better idea to put him to sleep with a trap and save yourself from any further risk.

You beat the regular eel and felt good? Good. Now meet the Tempered version: same moveset, but buffed into god-tier chaos and funsies.

How to Survive Tempered Lagiacrus
Prioritize defense-first builds – Stack Thunder Resist, Divine Blessing, Agitator.
Never overextend, commit only after big wind-ups or staggers.
Traps work, but he resists fast. Flash pods only marginally helpful.
Ranged kiting builds shine here. Stay mobile, chip away safely.
Use terrain pillars where possible on land and predictable AI pathing underwater.
And never, ever, EVER ignore that glowing spike back during Lightning Eruptions, it’s a prime punish zone if you’re quick.
