R.E.P.O. is the chaotic, co-op horror-comedy gem we didn’t know we needed.
But let’s be real—after a few runs, you start craving more chaos, more customization, and maybe a few extra limbs on those monsters.
That’s where mods come in.
And not just any mods—we’re talking about the top-tier, most-downloaded, highest-rated mods from Thunderstore.io.
Forget Nexus Mods and their virtue-signaling BS. Thunderstore is where the real gamers play. (Remember when Nexus tried to ban the Oblivion Remastered mod for daring to remove body types A and B in a single-player game? Yeah, we covered that woke stupidity.)
So if you’re ready to supercharge your R.E.P.O. experience, here are the 11 best mods to get you started while not supporting the virtue signaling asshats at NexusMods (and read how to install them after):
Tired of leaving friends out of the fun? This mod lets you increase the max player cap. Perfect for those massive game nights—or just to see how many bots you can handle before your PC melts.
If you don’t find the graphics charming, then you can say goodbye to grainy visuals. This mod removes the pixelated effect, giving you a cleaner, sharper R.E.P.O. experience. It’s like putting on glasses for the first time and realizing how ugly your friends are.
Sharing is caring. With this mod, upgrades apply to the entire team. No more fighting over who gets the strength boost—everyone wins.
Combine this with any spectator-friendly mod, and you’ve got a recipe for post-mortem chaos. DeadTTS lets you communicate via chat after death, keeping you in the game even when you’re just a spooky ghost with opinions.
Ever wonder how much damage you’re doing? This mod adds health bars and damage numbers to enemies, turning R.E.P.O. into a more tactical, RPG-lite experience. Very satisfying.
Spice up your gameplay with randomly (or manually) assigned roles. Each role comes with unique abilities, adding a new layer of strategy and replayability. Super fun.
This mod adds a variety of new upgrade items—from improved sprinting to enemy trackers. Think of it as the spice rack of R.E.P.O. upgrades: you didn’t know you needed it, but now you can’t live without it.
Ensure everyone is on the same page with synchronized upgrades. Only the host needs to install it, and it supports both official and modded upgrades. Very plug-and-play.
The ultimate modpack. New maps, enemies, items, cosmetics, and more. It’s R.E.P.O. on crack—if crack also added level design and better loot.
A creepy addition to your enemy pool and a personal favorite of mine for playing Lethal Company and R.E.P.O.; the Mimic disguises itself and its voice as you and your friends before lunging out and wrecking your day. Adds paranoia to an already unhinged game. 10/10 would scream again.
Why is death always so boring? This mod adds the Death Head Hopper and the Death Head Charger—great for not only allowing you to cruise the map as a funderful disembodied head – but the Death Head Charger unlocks a masterpiece ability that allows you to charge and stun your enemies. Much more fun than just spectating!
To install these mods effortlessly, use the Thunderstore App. It’s a clean, intuitive mod manager that makes adding and removing mods a breeze.
Just do the following steps:
Download and install the Thunderstore App
Search for R.E.P.O. and select it
Browse and install your desired mods
Launch the game through the app to enjoy your modded experience

Nexus Mods has become increasingly political, often removing mods that don’t align with their views. Case in point: the Oblivion Remastered drama. They removed it for eliminating body types A and B, only to reinstate it after backlash.
If it was an isolated incident, I may have looked the other way – however, they’re also known as the modding platform that banned a mod for replacing LGBTQ flags with American flags in Spiderman Remastered and I’m tired of their overly biased positions.
Thunderstore, on the other hand, keeps its focus on the community and the content.
No gatekeeping, no agendas—just mods.
I don’t believe they moderate their mods too closely, so I do recommend checking mods with antivirus/antimalware before opening, BUT good chances that it’s clean if it’s popular.
Looking for other politically-agnostic or free-speech-friendly modding platforms? Here are a few worth checking out for other games:
Whether you’re adding new roles, enhancing visuals, or just making the monsters weirder and meaner, these mods open up new layers of gameplay.
And with Thunderstore, you can mod without dealing with corporate politics or moderation overreach. Just you, your mods, and whatever the hell just jumped out of that storage container.
